A-Level exam day tips: board rules, paper choices and final checks

A final checklist for timetable accuracy, authorised materials, optional questions, mark-based pacing and post-paper recovery.

Your school or examination centre and awarding body instructions are authoritative. Recheck the board, subject, component, date, session and venue rather than relying on a personal revision calendar alone.

Prepare paper-specific materials

Confirm calculator models, data or formula booklets, dictionaries and stationery under the exact component rules. Clear any required calculator memory and bring only authorised items.

Read choices carefully

Check optional-question rules, command words and mark values before committing. Choose questions for which you can produce relevant evidence, not simply those with familiar topic labels.

Protect method and time

Show working, units and reasoning. Use pre-planned checkpoints and leave time to inspect omitted subparts, page turns, precision and whether extended answers address the set task.

After the paper

Do not let answer comparisons consume preparation for the next component. Report any incident promptly through the centre’s official process, then reset, eat and sleep.
