AMC study plan: six weeks before Australian Maths Competition week
A six-week AMC study plan for Junior, Intermediate or Senior — diagnose, repair, mock and taper into competition week.
A clear AMC study plan works backwards from your school’s window. AMT often schedules the Australian Mathematics Competition around early August — confirm locally, then plan six weeks.
Weeks 1–2: baseline for AMC preparation
Sit a mixed set in your division under time. Classify misses by family and cause. Do not abandon a whole topic from three items.
Weeks 3–4: targeted repair
- Two short closed-book sessions per week on the weakest family.
- One mixed timed block to keep method selection sharp.
- Delayed re-attempts of previously missed skills.
Week 5: full AMC rehearsal
Complete a full-division timed sit. Review the same day with an error log that names the next drill.
Week 6: light taper into competition week
One moderate sit early, then shorter drills only. Protect sleep and ordinary school routines in contest week.
