AMC test day tips for school Australian Maths Competition sittings

AMC test day checklist: confirm school logistics, bring permitted materials and run the pacing plan you rehearsed.

AMC test day is for executing practised decisions, not inventing new shortcuts under stress.

Logistics before the Australian Mathematics Competition

• Confirm division, start time, venue and ID requirements with the school.
• No calculator in secondary divisions — pack only permitted stationery.
• Arrive with ordinary breakfast and sleep, not a caffeine experiment.

During the AMC paper

1. Note the length, then start with controlled accuracy.
2. Hit your time checkpoints; flag without drama.
3. Use a one-breath reset after a hard miss before the next stem.
4. Final minutes: high-value flags and verification, not random rewrites.

Afterwards

Log two process wins for next year’s cycle. Official certificates follow AMT processes — treat practice scores as learning evidence only.
