HAST study plan: six weeks of timed reasoning and mistake review
A six-week HAST plan that moves from diagnostic work to section drills, mixed practice and a calm final rehearsal.
This six-week plan assumes three focused sessions each week. Shorten or extend it without changing the sequence: diagnose, isolate weak skills, mix them under time, then rehearse.
Weeks 1–2: establish the baseline
Confirm the components in your school notice. Sit one original diagnostic under a realistic clock. Classify every error as misunderstanding, weak method, careless execution or pacing. In week two, complete short sets from each assessed component and write one full response.
Weeks 3–4: build accuracy
Choose the two weakest skill families from your log. Alternate focused drills with delayed re-attempts of missed questions. For writing, practise plans as well as complete pieces: a five-minute structure exercise makes idea selection faster without outsourcing the thinking.
Week 5: mix and time
Combine question families so you must identify the method rather than being told it. Sit section-length blocks with fixed checkpoints. Review every guess, including lucky correct answers, because an unsupported guess has not become a reliable skill.
Week 6: rehearse and taper
Complete one realistic rehearsal early in the week. Use the result to revisit only high-value weaknesses. Finish heavy practice at least a day before the test and prepare equipment, travel and sleep instead.
