IB exam study plan: eight weeks from syllabus map to full papers

An eight-week IB revision cycle that balances retrieval, subject-specific practice, internal commitments and realistic timed papers.

Start with the current assessment calendar and every subject’s component requirements. The plan below is a framework; weight sessions by exam timing, subject level and diagnostic evidence.

Weeks 1–2: map and retrieve

Turn each syllabus into a checklist and complete a short diagnostic in every subject. Retrieve definitions, methods, examples and quotations from memory before checking notes. Identify the highest-impact gaps.

Weeks 3–4: build components

Practise the actual response units: one analysis paragraph, one data-response set, one proof, one source evaluation. Use current criteria and record repeated weaknesses by component.

Weeks 5–6: timed sections

Combine tasks under section clocks. Alternate subjects to strengthen spacing. Re-attempt errors after a delay and require a fresh answer rather than editing the marked one while feedback remains open.

Weeks 7–8: full papers and taper

Sit full papers under authorised conditions, including permitted calculator or data-booklet rules. Review strategically, then reduce volume in the final days. Protect sleep and the time needed between consecutive exams.

Weekly control check

Ask which subject has the nearest paper, which component has the weakest evidence, and whether the schedule is producing answers or merely organising notes.
