ICAS common mistakes across subjects and online assessment

Fix unsupported inference, missing units, weak graph reading, assumed digital rules and rushed online navigation.

Use mistakes to select a next action. A broad label such as “careless” hides whether the problem was interpretation, knowledge, execution or pacing.

Five frequent errors

  1. Reading from topic knowledge. Return to the supplied evidence.
  2. Ignoring units or scale in maths. Label and estimate before calculating.
  3. Reading a science graph without axes. Identify variables, units and trend first.
  4. Assuming a digital rule. Use only the system defined by the question.
  5. Missing an online panel or legend. Scan the complete item before answering.

Correct on fresh material

Explain the missed clue, solve the item from blank and later attempt another item using the same skill. A remembered answer does not demonstrate transfer.

Avoid award forecasting

Unofficial practice cannot reproduce official scaling, cohort performance or award rules. Track skill improvement and let ICAS provide official reporting.
