几乎 and 差不多: almost and approximately

几乎 (jīhū) often means nearly, approaching a limit. 差不多 (chàbuduō) can mean approximately or nearly the same. It can also describe something almost finished.
我几乎忘了。
Wǒ jīhū wàng le.
I almost forgot.
这两本书差不多厚。
Zhè liǎng běn shū chàbuduō hòu.
These two books are about the same thickness.
差不多 can modify an approximate quantity; 几乎 is not a general replacement for about before a number.
