经过 and 通过: passing and achieving

经过 (jīngguò) can mean pass through or undergo; it can introduce a process. 通过 (tōngguò) can mean pass, get approved, or achieve something through a means.
我每天经过这家店。
Wǒ měitiān jīngguò zhè jiā diàn.
I pass this shop every day.
她通过了考试。
Tā tōngguò le kǎoshì.
She passed the exam.
Passing by a place and passing an exam use different senses. Do not transfer an English phrase without checking the intended result.
