Chinese location words and prepositions

在 introduces a location. 上、下、里 and 外 locate things relative to a reference point. 从 names a starting point; 往 or 向 can give a direction.
猫在桌子下面。
Māo zài zhuōzi xiàmiàn.
The cat is under the table.
从这里往右走。
Cóng zhèlǐ wǎng yòu zǒu.

A location of an action often precedes the verb, but a destination may follow a motion verb: 去学校.
