Chinese reading: finding the subway
Original Chinese study material with English explanations. Simplified Chinese with pinyin; beginner, intermediate and advanced are editorial difficulty labels.
Read the direction words in order. 地铁 means subway or metro; 站 means station. Do not use the first place mentioned as the destination automatically.
我第一次来这里,不知道地铁站在哪里。
Wǒ dì yī cì lái zhèlǐ, bù zhīdào dìtiě zhàn zài nǎlǐ.
This is my first visit here, and I do not know where the subway station is.
一位老师说:“往前走,到书店以后向左转。”
Yí wèi lǎoshī shuō: “Wǎng qián zǒu, dào shūdiàn yǐhòu xiàng zuǒ zhuǎn.”
A teacher says, “Walk ahead and turn left after you reach the bookshop.”
我看见了车站,也看见旁边的小公园。
Wǒ kànjiàn le chēzhàn, yě kànjiàn pángbiān de xiǎo gōngyuán.
I see the station and also the small park beside it.
The bookshop is a turning point, not the destination. 向左转 means turn left.
