认识 and 知道: two kinds of knowing

认识 (rènshi) commonly means to know or recognise a person, place or character. 知道 (zhīdào) means to know a fact or information.
我认识王老师。
Wǒ rènshi Wáng lǎoshī.
I know Teacher Wang.
我知道他住在哪里。
Wǒ zhīdào tā zhù zài nǎlǐ.
I know where he lives.
Knowing a person and knowing information about that person are different claims.
