Practise the thinking. Keep the judgement.

Can ChatGPT make flashcards? Yes, if you check and import them properly

Prompt a chatbot for two-column cards, review the output and import it into Anki or Ronri as a CSV so the cards are actually scheduled.

Ask for a format you can import

A chatbot can turn notes into question-and-answer pairs, but a chat window is not a study schedule. Ask for two columns, front and back, with one fact per row, and paste only the notes you need to learn.

A useful prompt: “Make flashcards from these notes. Output CSV with the header front, back. One fact per card. Put quotation marks around any cell that contains a comma. Do not add facts that are not in the notes.”

Review before you import

Read every row. Remove cards about details you will never need, rewrite vague questions and check any fact you are not sure of against your notes. A model can confidently state something that is wrong.

Also check the format. Each row should have exactly two cells, and commas inside a cell need quotation marks. A broken row usually means a missing quotation mark.

Import into Anki or Ronri

Save the text as a .csv file. In Anki desktop, choose File, then Import, select the file and match the columns to the Front and Back fields. In Ronri, open Tool, then Flashcards, choose Import and then CSV. Ronri reads comma- or tab-separated files and recognises a header row naming the front and back columns.

Once imported, the cards follow your deck’s schedule like any other card. That is the step that turns a chatbot’s list into spaced practice.

Where a chatbot falls short

A chatbot does not know what your exam emphasises or what you already understand. It may produce too many cards or cards that are easy to recognise but hard to use.

Work in small batches, edit as you go and add cards for questions you get wrong in practice. That keeps the deck focused on what you need.

Try it yourself

Your CSV has the header front, back. One row reads: Name three causes, war, famine, disease. Why might it import incorrectly, and how do you fix it?

Show the answer and explanation

The commas inside the answer split it into extra columns; put quotation marks around the cell.

CSV uses commas to separate cells, so any comma inside a field must be inside a quoted cell.
