ひさしぶり

hisashiburi

Meaning

For the first time in a while; long time no see

Two original examples

お久しぶりです。お元気でしたか。

It has been a while. How have you been?

久しぶりに海へ行きました。

I went to the seaside for the first time in a while.

Usage and distinctions

久しぶり is used after an interval. お久しぶりです is a polite greeting; 久しぶりに modifies an action. The expression does not specify the interval’s exact length and is not the same as 初めて, “for the first time ever”.
