Meaning

Liked; fond of

Two original examples

私は猫が好きです。

I like cats.

好きな音楽を教えてください。

Please tell me what music you like.

Usage and distinctions

好き behaves as a な-adjective, not an English-style transitive verb. The liked thing commonly takes が: 猫が好きです. 大好き strengthens the feeling. 好きです said to a person can express romantic interest, depending on context.
