NAPLAN study plan: four weeks of low-pressure skill practice
A balanced four-week plan for online familiarisation, literacy and numeracy retrieval, writing and targeted error review.
NAPLAN preparation should be proportionate. Two or three short sessions a week are enough to learn the interface and revisit demonstrated weaknesses while classroom learning remains central.
Week 1: understand the experience
Visit ACARA’s public demonstration site and try the relevant year-level examples. Practise navigation and accessibility tools. Complete a small diagnostic across domains without turning the result into a label.
Week 2: literacy focus
Read one unfamiliar text and justify answers with evidence. Complete a short conventions set, then proofread ordinary school writing for one feature at a time.
Week 3: numeracy and writing
Mix number, measurement, space and data questions. Require a representation and estimate before calculation. Plan and write one response to an unfamiliar prompt, followed by revision.
Week 4: combine and taper
Complete one moderate timed block in each relevant domain. Revisit two recurring errors after a delay. Finish with light reading, normal maths and reliable sleep rather than a last-minute mock.
Review language for adults
Ask “Which skill should we practise next?” rather than “What score will you get?” This keeps the assessment in its proper role as one source of learning information.
