NAPLAN test day tips for a calm and prepared student
A simple NAPLAN checklist for school instructions, device routines, section pacing, writing review and healthy perspective.
The school manages NAPLAN sessions, equipment and local arrangements. Families should follow school communication rather than assume every year level or class has the same daily timetable.
Before school
Keep the morning familiar: normal breakfast, usual routine and no last-minute drilling. Bring only what the school requests. Remind the student that the assessment is one snapshot and that difficult questions are expected.
During an online session
Read instructions before selecting an answer. Use available tools purposefully, check diagrams and scroll areas, and alert the supervisor promptly if a device or display problem occurs. Do not rush simply because classmates appear to move ahead.
Writing and review
Follow the exact prompt, plan briefly and reserve time to revise. In objective domains, review flagged items only after reaching the end and only when time remains.
After the session
Avoid detailed answer comparisons, which can create unnecessary anxiety and may misremember adaptive pathways. When results arrive, read official explanatory information and discuss strengths and next steps with the school.
