Photograph your handwritten essay clearly, include the task and submit it for feedback. Check that the writing is readable before uploading.
Primary and junior-secondary writing is often still handwritten. Retyping a full draft just to “paste into AI” kills the study session. RubricMark’s assignment feedback accepts photos, PDFs, and scans — so you can mark the page you already wrote.

How photo marking works for students
- Finish the handwritten response (homework, selective practice, class essay).
- Photograph each page in good light — one page per shot, edges in frame, no glare.
- Upload the images (up to 20 files per run) on Get your Mark. Add the task prompt if you have it.
- Choose the exam type when relevant, or leave Auto detect.
- Review criterion feedback; rewrite on paper or typed for the next attempt.
Vision intake reads the page; marking still runs against a rubric. If a human cannot read the handwriting, the system will struggle too — neat enough for a teacher is the right bar.
Photo checklist for cleaner recognition
- Flat page, camera parallel to the paper
- High contrast ink (dark pen on white)
- Crop out desk clutter and overlapping sheets
- Upload pages in order
- Avoid heavy shadow across the middle of the page
When to type instead
Use typed paste when the draft is already digital, when handwriting is dense cursive that even you struggle to re-read, or when you need a clean revision archive in Past feedback. Many students photograph draft 1, fix criteria, then type draft 2 for a cleaner second mark.
Keep the active-learning rule
Uploading a photo is still an attempt. Do not photograph someone else’s work, and do not ask a chat tool to rewrite the essay before you have produced your own. AI enhances the mark — it should not produce the first draft for you.
After feedback, the next step might be a timed writing sit (Selective, HAST, or school task) so you prove the fix under clock.
