Homework help that sticks: try, review and practise again
Attempt the question, record what went wrong and return to it later. Use feedback and recall practice to check your understanding.
Search for homework help or an AI homework helper and most tools offer the same loop: snap or paste the question, read a fluent solution, tick the worksheet. That feels like studying. It is usually reading someone else’s working.
Field evidence on ChatGPT-like tutors is blunt: assisted practice can look stronger while unassisted exam scores fall. A 2025 PNAS study (Bastani and colleagues) found large gains while the tool was on, then a drop when students sat without it — unless the tutor withheld full answers and gave hints after a real attempt. Help that transfers to a closed-book paper has four beats:
- Produce first. Timer on. No solver, no chat, no worked PDF until you have a full attempt or a written stuck-point.
- Mark, don’t rewrite yet. Check answers. Circle misses. Do not copy a full solution over your page.
- Log the miss. Photo or paste the stem into the Mistake Book. One item, one concept tag, one next action.

Where AI is allowed — and where it is not
Study Lab may draft flashcards from notes, outline a PDF in Outliner, or explain a miss after you tried. Assignment feedback marks writing after you submit. AI must not flip cards for you, invent live exam MCQs, or hand you the homework answer on first contact. Australia’s school generative-AI framework is purpose-limitation: student work is for the job you asked (mark, diagnose, queue a drill) — not an open consumer chat that keeps the essay in history. Read the privacy policy before you upload named schoolwork anywhere.

- 12 min — attempt the set closed-book.
- 4 min — mark; list misses only.
- 6 min — import two or three misses into Mistake Book; write the correct first step in your own words.
