LANTITE practice test guide for Australian teaching students

How to prepare for ACER’s two 120-minute LANTITE components — reading + writing conventions, and calculator / non-calculator numeracy — with timed drills.

LANTITE is two bookable components — Literacy and Numeracy — each 65 questions in 120 minutes. Most candidates fail pacing, not “not knowing Year 9 maths.”

Use official ACER materials first

ACER publishes practice questions, full practice tests, and online practice with standards reports for registered candidates. Attempt online practice before reading worked solutions so you do not invent false confidence.

Literacy: two skill buckets

  • Reading — access/identify, integrate/interpret, evaluate/reflect across classroom-style texts.
  • Technical writing skills — syntax, grammar, spelling, word usage, text organisation (about one-third of the component).

Drill reading sets and language-convention sets separately, then combine under one two-hour clock.

Numeracy: protect the non-calculator block

Most items allow a calculator; a short block does not. Practise mental percentage, fraction, and estimation work so Section 2 does not erase an otherwise solid score.

A two-component week plan

  1. Two literacy drills (45–60 min) + one full literacy clock.
  2. Two numeracy topic drills + one full numeracy clock with the calculator lock rehearsed.
  3. Review only wrong items — rewrite the method, do not re-read a chat solution.
