LNAT practice test guide: critical reading and the argumentative essay
How to train LNAT Section A comprehension and Section B essay structure for UK undergraduate law consortium courses.
LNAT does not test legal knowledge. Section A is 42 multiple-choice questions on 12 argumentative passages (95 minutes). Section B is one essay from three prompts (40 minutes).
Section A — argue with the passage
Practise identifying the author’s claim, assumptions, and what the question actually asks. Timed sets beat slow “perfect” reading.
Section B — plan then write
Spend 5–7 minutes outlining a clear position and two supporting lines before drafting. Get rubric feedback after you write — do not let a chat draft the essay for you.
