What you are looking at

Each guided-solve item is a short written response, not a multiple-choice guess. The runner shows:

• The prompt — often with a Practice mode badge when instant check is on.
• Show your working — a pad with operators, algebra, functions, calculus, and Greek letters.
• Live preview — your plain typing (including π and simple powers) formats as maths beside the box.
• Check answer — in practice mode, after you submit working; full mocks wait until you finish the paper.

Worked example: circle area in terms of π

The demo stem is deliberately small so you can see the product, not a two-page proof.

Stem: r = 7. Area = ?π

Method

1. Recall A = πr² (see also Math formulas in Study Lab).
2. Substitute r = 7 → A = π × 7².
3. Evaluate the square: 7² = 49.
4. Leave π symbolic: final line 49π (or 49\pi).

Practice mode grades from the last non-empty line. Messy scratch above is fine; the clean answer belongs at the bottom.

Guide: use the symbol pad like a marker expects

1. Scan the stem for symbols — if you see = or π, those keys highlight automatically so you are not hunting Greek rows.
2. Tap to insert, then type around them — the pad inserts text into the working box; you still choose the structure.
3. Prefer one idea per line — formula → substitution → arithmetic → final answer.
4. Keep π as π when the stem asks for an exact area; do not “helpfully” convert to 153.94 unless the question wants a decimal.

Guide: what “good working” looks like

• Readable to a human — a tutor should follow your lines without reverse-engineering.
• Method visible — show the formula before the number crunch.
• Final line sacred — that is the graded answer in guided solve.
• No answer-chat paste — if you did not produce the steps, the mark does not measure your skill (and unassisted exams will show it).

Practice mode vs a full mock
