NAPLAN writing practice: use feedback to revise

NAPLAN writing is not “one mark for a good story.” Trained markers score each script against ten independent criteria on the national narrative or persuasive guide. AI can help families practise — if the feedback points at those criteria. It cannot predict the official test-day score.

A student practice loop that respects the rubric

1. Pick the genre. Narrative or persuasive — match the week’s school focus or rotate weekly.
2. Write under a soft clock. 30–40 minutes is enough for formative practice; save full timing for later.

4. Fix two rows. Example: Audience + Text structure this week; Vocabulary + Sentence structure next week.

What AI NAPLAN practice is — and is not

Is: consistent formative feedback against NAPLAN-style criteria, faster than waiting for a single school return, useful for spotting patterns (buried position, thin ideas, short sentences).

Is not: an official score, a substitute for marker training, or a guarantee of band movement. Treat every AI run as practice intelligence — then verify against ACARA exemplars and teacher advice.

Parents: how to read the report together

• Ask your child to find the quote Rubi cited — can they see the issue?
• Rewrite one paragraph together; do not rewrite the whole piece for them.
• Log which criteria improve across three drafts — that is progress tracking without a school dashboard login.
