What is SASMO? Singapore and Asian Schools Math Olympiad

SASMO is a school-entered contest maths paper on the olympiad pathway. Confirm dates and year bands with your school and the organiser — then practise under a similar clock.

SASMO (Singapore and Asian Schools Math Olympiad) is a school-entered contest paper that rewards olympiad-style reasoning. It is organised separately from the Singapore Mathematical Society’s SMO rounds, even though families often practise both as one “olympiad pathway.”

Who sits SASMO?

Schools register year bands published by the organiser. Confirm the live grade list and sitting window with your school and sasmo.sg — do not copy last year’s dates from a forum post.

How SASMO feels

Items mix accessible early questions with later multi-step modelling. Calculators are typically not the point of the paper; work in the format your school has been told to expect.

How to prepare

Sit a timed olympiad-style paper in the matching band, then repair number, geometry and counting families. If your school also enters SMO, keep SASMO and SMO clocks distinct in the final fortnight so you do not mix timings.
