SPI preparation: verbal and numerical practice for job applications

Check the assessment named in your invitation, practise verbal reasoning and numerical methods, then review accuracy and timing separately.

How should you start SPI preparation?

Read the employer’s invitation first, confirm the assessment and delivery instructions, then try a short verbal and numerical set without notes.

The official SPI3 service distinguishes ability and personality assessment. This guide focuses on ability practice. For personality questions, follow the instructions and answer honestly rather than trying to invent an ideal profile.

A career change does not tell you which assessment an employer will use. Check the current invitation rather than assuming that a previous employer’s test or a company-name list applies.

How do you prepare for SPI verbal questions?

Explain word relationships, identify a sentence’s role and support reading answers with the relevant text. Review why a tempting alternative is wrong.

For vocabulary, write a short distinction between two nearby meanings and use each in a sentence. For reading, separate the main claim from its example. If an answer adds a condition the passage never states, write down that extra assumption before checking the explanation.

How do you prepare for SPI numerical questions?

Translate the situation into quantities and units before choosing a calculation. Begin with ratios, percentages, rates and logical conditions, then practise unfamiliar examples.

Original example: an item costs ¥2,400 before a 15% discount. The discount is 2,400 × 0.15 = ¥360, so the new price is ¥2,040. Increasing ¥2,040 by 15% gives ¥2,346, because the base has changed. Name the base before calculating.

After a miss, distinguish a reading error from a wrong method, arithmetic slip or time problem. Practise a changed version independently so that remembering an answer is not mistaken for understanding.

How should you practise SPI timing?

Learn a method without a clock, then attempt a timed set and record accuracy and time separately. Follow the rules for your actual assessment.

RubricMark offers short drills and distinct timed practice profiles. Their question counts and clocks are learning designs. They do not reproduce proprietary adaptive selection or establish an employer’s pass threshold. SPI practice requires an active Super or Max monthly plan.

The linked workspace offers verbal and numerical practice and a separate ES writing entry. Draft an ES from your own experience, with a concrete action and result, rather than copying a model response.
