VCE exam day tips: authorised materials, timing and final review

A practical VCE checklist for the official timetable, reading instructions, permitted materials, pacing and incident reporting.

Use VCAA and school instructions as the authority. Recheck the study, date, session, venue and required arrival time for every examination.

Prepare for the exact study

Confirm permitted calculators, notes, dictionaries, formula sheets and stationery. Rules vary, and a material allowed in one examination may be prohibited in another.

Read before producing

Follow instructions about reading time and answer-book use. Identify sections, choices, marks and command words, then set checkpoints.

Preserve evidence

Show working, label units and refer to source features. Leave a final interval to scan every page, check omitted subparts and test whether extended answers addressed the question.

Handle incidents officially

Alert the supervisor promptly and follow school/VCAA procedures. After the examination, avoid a lengthy answer comparison and reset for the next study.
