WA ASET study plan: eight weeks of active selection-test practice
An eight-week schedule for diagnostics, section skills, writing, mixed reasoning and realistic timed rehearsal.
Plan three focused sessions a week and verify the official test date and components before allocating time.
Weeks 1–2: map the test
Read current Department and candidate information. Complete short diagnostics in every assessed area and one full writing response. Classify errors by skill and cause.
Weeks 3–4: isolate weak methods
Alternate literacy and reasoning sessions. Start from retrieval, attempt unseen items and re-attempt missed methods after a delay. Practise writing plans as well as finished pieces.
Weeks 5–6: mix under time
Combine question families so method selection becomes part of the task. Add section-length clocks and review unsupported guesses. Use checkpoints and a move-on rule.
Weeks 7–8: rehearse and taper
Complete one or two multi-section rehearsals under current conditions. Use results to repair recurring weaknesses only. Reduce volume before test day and prepare logistics.
Measure transfer
Track performance on unseen questions and delayed re-attempts. Improvement on a repeatedly viewed set may only show memory.
