HSC exam day tips: timetable, reading time and final checks

A practical HSC exam-day checklist for NESA rules, authorised equipment, question reading, pacing and between-paper recovery.

Your official timetable, school communication and NESA rules control the session. Confirm the course, paper, date, start time, venue and arrival requirement for every examination.

Pack for the exact paper

Check approved equipment and subject-specific rules. Do not assume a calculator, dictionary, notes or other material permitted elsewhere is allowed here.

Use reading time deliberately

Follow instructions about what may be done. Identify sections, optional questions, mark values and command verbs. Build a pacing plan before writing begins.

Make answers inspectable

Label question parts, show working, cite source features and connect evidence to the task. Reserve time for omitted pages, units, answer-book details and whether extended responses stayed on question.

Report issues and reset

Tell the supervisor promptly about an incident and use official school/NESA processes. After the paper, avoid an extended answer comparison; recover for the next exam.
