Question 1

What is a selective school?

Accepted Answer

In NSW, a selective high school places Year 7 applicants through the Selective High School Placement Test: Reading, Mathematical Reasoning, Thinking Skills, and Writing, then marks after you write. RubricMark sits those clocks at rubricmark.com/selective. NSW publishes dates on the Department of Education placement-test page. Start with a short sample, then an optional full paper.

Question 2

How do I prepare for the NSW Selective test?

Accepted Answer

Practise one section a day until reading, maths, and thinking formats are familiar, then sit a timed RubricMark paper at rubricmark.com/selective and drill the section that lagged. Writing is marked after you write. Keep full papers as checkpoints. Confirm dates on the NSW Department of Education placement-test page.

Question 3

What is the NSW Selective High School Placement Test?

Accepted Answer

A computer-based Year 6 test with four equally weighted sections: Reading, Mathematical Reasoning, Thinking Skills, and Writing. Results feed the statewide selective high school ranking list.

Question 4

Where can I find selective practice tests or past papers?

Accepted Answer

NSW DoE publishes official practice tests. RubricMark adds timed full-format mocks and form-aware writing feedback so you practise pacing and get criterion notes after each attempt — not a PDF dump alone.

Question 5

When is the NSW Selective test?

Accepted Answer

Usually in May of Year 6; applications open earlier. Confirm current dates on the NSW Department of Education placement-test page before you plan mocks.
