Question 1

How do I prepare for the HAST test?

Accepted Answer

First confirm the HAST level named by your school. Learn the Reading, Mathematical Reasoning and Abstract Reasoning question formats, then complete a timed practice test and review the section that cost you the most marks or time. Attempt Written Expression before viewing feedback, and use later full tests as progress checks.

Question 2

What is the HAST test?

Accepted Answer

HAST (Higher Ability Selection Test) is an ACER reasoning exam used by selective schools and scholarships. Secondary packages typically include Reading Comprehension, Mathematical / Mathematical & Scientific Reasoning, Abstract Reasoning, and Written Expression. Confirm your band (Primary / Junior / Middle / Senior) on the school offer letter.

Question 3

Is an ACER scholarship test the same as HAST?

Accepted Answer

If the offer letter names ACER or HAST, sit HAST on RubricMark. If it names Edutest or Academic Assessment Services (AAS), sit Edutest. For AAS figural or spatial reasoning, add a HAST abstract drill after the Edutest trial. Searching the school name (for example a Melbourne selective high school) does not tell you which paper to practise.

Question 4

Where can I find HAST past exam questions and practice papers?

Accepted Answer

RubricMark provides original HAST-style practice for Reading, Mathematical Reasoning, Abstract Reasoning and Written Expression, matched to the level on your school letter. For official sample questions and current format information, visit acer.org/au/hast.

Question 5

Are RubricMark HAST papers the same as ACER past papers?

Accepted Answer

RubricMark serves original, exam-spec practice sampled into timed mocks and section drills. The goal is pacing and fresh stems so consecutive sits do not feel identical.

Question 6

Do you offer a HAST sample question booklet?

Accepted Answer

Yes — in interactive form. Open a year-band trial or section drill to work through sample-style question sets with the same section families ACER packages use (reading, maths/scientific reasoning, abstract, written expression). Prefer timed sits over reading a booklet once.

Question 7

How should I practise for HAST Written Expression?

Accepted Answer

Sit the timed writing task first, then submit for critical thinking review. Do not read a model answer before you attempt — RubricMark marks after you write so feedback maps to your draft.

Question 8

Which HAST year band should I choose?

Accepted Answer

Match the package on your school or scholarship offer: HAST-P (Primary), Junior Secondary, Middle Secondary, or Senior Secondary. Wrong-band practice wastes time on the wrong clock and difficulty.
