Use ChatGPT to turn your notes into a flashcard CSV for Ronri

A prompt that produces an importable CSV, the checks to make before you trust it, and the import rules Ronri applies.

Ask for the exact format

Copy one note, or one section of a long note, into ChatGPT with a prompt like this: “Make flashcards from these notes. Output only CSV with the header front, back, note. One fact per card. Put quotation marks around every cell. Use only facts in the notes.” Quoting every cell avoids the most common import problem.

If your note already uses Obsidian card lines such as Question::Answer, say so: “Convert each line written as question::answer into one CSV row.” ChatGPT then reformats your own cards instead of inventing new ones.

Check the output before saving it

Read every row. Delete cards about details you will never be asked, split rows that ask two things and compare anything surprising with your note. A model can state an error confidently, and you are the one who will be tested.

Then check the shape. Each row needs a front and a back. Commas inside a cell must be inside quotation marks: an unquoted answer such as war, famine, disease imports as just “war”.

Save a .csv file where your iPhone can see it

On a Mac, paste the text into TextEdit, choose Format, then Make Plain Text, and save it with a .csv ending in iCloud Drive. If ChatGPT offers the result as a downloadable file, save that file to iCloud Drive or Files on your iPhone instead.

Keep the header in English. Ronri recognises front, question, term or word for the first column and back, answer, definition or meaning for the second, plus an optional note column. A header such as 正面,背面 is read as an ordinary card.

Import and study in Ronri

In Ronri, open Tool, then Flashcards, choose Import, then CSV, and pick the file. Ronri shows the cards before saving, skips empty rows and accepts up to 500 cards and 2,000 characters per side in one file, so split anything larger. Tab-separated .tsv and .txt files work too.

After saving, the deck follows your spaced-repetition settings and syncs with your RubricMark account. Add cards for questions you miss later, so the deck grows from real gaps rather than from everything in the note.

Try it yourself

Your CSV starts with the line 正面,背面 and the import shows one extra card with those two words. Why, and how do you fix it?

Show the answer and explanation

Ronri only recognises English header names, so it treated the line as a card; change the header to front, back.

Without a recognised header, every row with two cells is imported as a card, including the first one.
